Surah Zalzalah, also known as surah Zilzal, is the 99th chapter of the Holy Quran. The theme of this surah is about the life after death and how the deeds of man, good and bad, will be presented in front of them.

Surah Zalzalah Translation

  1. When the earth is shaken with its [final] earthquake
  2. and when the earth throws out [all] its contents
  3. and humanity cries, “What is wrong with it?”
  4. That Day, it will report its news
  5. Because your Lord has inspired [i.e., commanded] it.
  6. That Day, the people will depart separated [into categories] to be shown [the result of] their deeds.
  7. So whoever does an atom’s weight of good will see it.
  8. And whoever does an atom’s weight of evil will see it.

Bismillaahir Rahmaanir Raheem 

  1. Izhaa zul zilatil ardu zil zaalaha
  2. Wa akh rajatil ardu athqaalaha
  3. Wa qaalal insaanu ma laha
  4. Yawmaa izhin tuhaddithu akhbaaraha
  5. Bi-anna rabbaka awhaa laha
  6. Yawma izhin yas durun naasu ash tatal liyuraw a’maalahum
  7. Famaiy ya’mal mithqala zharratin khai raiy-yarah
  8. Wa maiy-y’amal mithqala zharratin sharraiy-yarah

Hadith on Surah Zilzal

Narrated Ibn ‘Abbas (RA):

That the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: “Idha Zulzilat is equal to half of the Qur’an, Qul Huwa Allahu Ahad is equal to a third of the Qur’an, and Qul Yul Ya Ayyuhal-Kafirun is equal to a fourth of the Qur’an.”

Narrated Anas bin Malik (RA):

That the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said to a man among his Companions: “Have you married O so-and-so?” He said: “No by Allah O Messenger of Allah! And I do not have anything to marry with.” He said: “Do you not know: Qul Huwa Allahu Ahad?” He said: “Of course.” He said: “It is a third of the Qur’an.” He said: “Do you not know Idha Ja Nasrullahi Wal-Fath?” He said: “Of course.” He said: “It is a fourth of the Qur’an.” He said: “Do you not know Qul Ya Ayyuhal-Kafirun?” He said: “Of course.” He said: “It is a fourth of the Qur’an.” He said: “Do you not know Idha Zulzilat Al-Ard?” He said: “Of course.” He said: “It is a fourth of the Qur’an.” He said: “Marry, marry.”

Tirmidhi

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:

Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) recited, “That Day it (the earth) will reveal its news (about all that happened over it of good or evil).” (99:4). Then he (ﷺ) inquired, “Do you know what its news are?” He was told: “Allah and His Messenger know better”. He said, “Its news is that it shall bear witness against every slave man and woman they did on its back. It will say: ‘You did this and this on such and such day.’ Those will be its news.”
