Surah Muzammil is the 73rd surah of the Quran. It is a short surah, consisting of only 20 verses. Muzammil in Arabic, translates as “Wrapped in Garment” or “Enshrouded One.” This term is used in the Holy Quran to characterise Prophet Muhammad (SAW). “O you who are wrapped up in your garments!” Allah says to Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
Surah Muzammil Theme and Importance
The theme at the start of Surah Muzammil is the importance of the night prayer and its benefits. The command is to come out of the bed and stand up to pray in a slow pace and calmly so each letter is pronounced distinctly.
At the time of this surah’s revelation- it was one of the earliest of the revealed surahs, only a few verses had descended up to then, yet the Prophet was to spend half of the night in prayer. This shows the importance of reciting the Quran clearly and with conviction.
Prayer is a means of communication with Allah, and it is through prayer that we can ask for His guidance and assistance. The surah also emphasises the importance of being patient and persevering in our prayers, even when we are going through difficult times.

There are no hadith which mention the particular virtues of Surah Muzammil. A hadith states that the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said that whoever recites the Quran, Allah will grant him ten good deeds for every letter that he reads.
