Where is Surah Yasin in the Quran?

Surah Yasin is the 36th Chapter of the Quran and was revealed in Makkah.  It has 83 verses spread over the 22nd and 23rd Juz (para) of the Quran.  Chronologically, it was the 41st Surah to be revealed.

Why is Surah Yasin important?

Its main focus is the Oneness of Allah without any partners and the success of those who believe in this, belief in the work of prophethood and belief in the life Hereafter.  It emphasizes that the Quran is only from Allah because it is truly unique and there is punishment for those who disbelieve in it after Resurrection.

Why is Surah Yasin called the heart of the Quran?

Surah Yasin is referred ‘to the heart of the Quran’ from a hadith:  Truly everything has a heart and the heart of Quran is {Yasin}; and whoever recites {Yasin}, Allah shall record for him, because of that recitation, the recitation of the Quran ten times” which is narrated through Muqatil b. Hayyan, from Qatada, (Tirmidhi)

Hadith on Surah Yasin

Jundub ibn Abdullah (RA) narrates that Rasulullah (SAW) said, “Whoever recites Surah Yasin at night seeking the pleasure of Allah, His sins will be forgiven.”

(Muwatta Imam Malik).

Ibn ‘Abbas (RA) says: “Whoever recites Yasin in the morning, his work for that entire day will be made easy and whoever recites it at the end of the day, his tasks till the next morning will be made easy.” (Sunan Darimi

Narrated from Ma’qal Ibn Yassaar (RA), who said: The Prophet (SAW) said: “Recite Surah Yasin over your dead.”

The Prophet (SAW) said: “Whoever reads Surah Yasin at the beginning of the day; his needs will be fulfilled.”

(Mishkat al Masaabih)

The Prophet (SAW) said: “Whoever continues to read Surah Yasin every night then dies, will die as a martyr.”

When to read Surah Yasin

Surah Yasin, just like the rest of the Quran can be read anytime for its reflection and reward.  But according to some hadith, it does seem to bring additional benefits when read either at night or early in the morning.  Many pious people read it after Fajr salaah every day.

‘So exalted is He in whose hand is the realm of all things, and to Him you will be returned.’
