When looking at the signs of the final hour, we split them into two categories. The first are the minor signs and the second are the major signs. Within the minor signs of the hour, there are two types:
- Signs that occur far earlier than the Hour
- Signs that occur neither earlier nor close to the Hour
Allah says in the Holy Quran:
عَـٰلِمُ ٱلْغَيْبِ فَلَا يُظْهِرُ عَلَىٰ غَيْبِهِۦٓ أَحَدًا – إِلَّا مَنِ ٱرْتَضَىٰ مِن رَّسُولٍ
He is the Knower of the unseen, disclosing none of it to anyone, except messengers of His choice…
Quran [72:26-27]
Only Allah knows best when the day of judgement will arrive. Nabi SAW has informed us of many minor and major signs, so must read about these and inform others in order to be prepared.
Signs that occur far earlier than the Hour
These are signs that have already come and gone; they are referred to as minor signs because the time in which they occurred is far earlier than the beginning of the Hour. Some example include: the sending of Prophet Muhammed SAW, the splitting of the moon and the emergence of a great fire in Madinah. (These will be discussed later on)
Signs that occur neither earlier nor close to the Hour
These signs are those which have appeared but haven’t yet finished, rather they are increasing. Some of these include: the naked and barefoot shepherds competing in the construction of lofty buildings and the coming of 30 imposters who claim to be prophets.
20 Minor Signs of the Hour which have already occurred
The list below contains twenty minor signs which have already occurred. However there are around 85 in total which have already happened, and around 45 which are yet to happen.
- The sending of our Prophet Muhammed SAW
- The death of our Prophet Muhammed SAW
- The splitting of the moon
- Disappearance of the noble companions (RA)
- Conquest of Jerusalem
- Widespread death like murrain of sheep
- Prevalence of turmoil (fitnah) of all kinds
- Prevalence of satellite channels
- Prophet SAW foretelling the battle of Siffeen
- The emergence of the Khawarij
- Claims of prophethood by liars
- Spread of security and prosperity
- Appearance of fire in the Hijaz
- Fighting the Turks
- Appearance of unjust men who beat the people with whips
- A great deal of Killing
- Loss of honesty and it’s disappearance from people’s hearts
- Following the ways of nations who came before
- The slave woman giving birth to her mistress
- Appearance of women who are clothed yet naked
20 Minor Signs of the Hour which have not yet occurred
- Great abundance of wealth among the people
- The earth giving up its treasure
- Transformation
- Landslides
- Pelting (with stones)
- Rain against which houses of brick cannot offer any protection
- Rain will fall from the sky but the earth will not bring forth anything
- Tribulation which will utterly destroy the Arabs
- Trees will speak
- Rocks will speak and support the Muslims
- Muslims fighting the Jews
- The Euphrates will uncover a mountain of gold
- The coming of a time when a man will be given a choice of being labelled incompetent or committing immorality
- Arabia becoming meadows and rivers once more
- Fitnat al-ahlass – a lengthy and intense tribulation
- Fitnat al-sarra’ – a tribulation caused by luxury and a life of ease
- Fitnat al-duhayma’ – a huge tribulation
- A time when one prostration will be equivalent to this world and everything in it
- The new moon looking bigger than usual
- A time when there will be no one left but he will go and live in Al-Shaam (The Levant – modern day Syria, Jordan, Palestine, Lebanon, Israel and Cyprus)
